The Croatian Chamber of Economy – Varaždin County Chamber held a workshop on Thursday, 20th March 2025, entitled “Green Transition through Active Measures”, which brought together employers and experts with the aim of introducing them to current employment policy measures for green and digital jobs, as well as the opportunities offered by the network of digital innovation hubs for green and digital transition. Green and digital transformation are two leading global economic trends that require adaptation to regulatory requirements and maintaining a current competitive position.

Digital and green transition through the network of DIHs

The County Chamber Varaždin is implementing the EU project Smart Circuit, Interreg CE. The aim of this project is to prepare companies for the green transition through the network of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs), which enable the exchange of knowledge and resources needed to adapt to new environmental and digital standards.

During the workshop, a service of DIH Connect  was presented – an online tool for product Life cycle analysis (LCA) called CarbonGraph Eco Scan, which is designed to provide companies with a simple insight and calculation of the ecological footprint of an individual product.

The service includes a series of short introductory videos that explain to users the importance and benefits of conducting an LCA analysis, as well as a link to the CarbonGraph Eco Scan tool. LCA analysis assesses the environmental impact of a product in three main categories – carbon footprint, which is expressed in kilograms of CO2 equivalent, water footprint, which measures water consumption per unit of product, and land footprint, which expresses the area of agricultural land required for the annual production of a unit of product. In addition to quantifying environmental impact, CarbonGraph Eco Scan allows for the identification of critical points in the production process and the analysis of different scenarios and alternatives. Companies can test different design, production and supply strategies to find the optimal way to reduce negative environmental impact.

The workshop “Green Transition through Active Measures” once again confirmed the importance of digital and green transition for future development, and companies that adapt to new trends will have a competitive advantage and will find it easier to meet the environmental requirements of the market.
